The Times They Are A-Changin’
To those who have shown Last November love and shared our passion for this music over the better part of the past decade, this letter is for you.
Last November has been everything to me since my sophomore year of high school. When we first started this journey I had no idea what a wild and amazing ride it would be. I certainly didn’t know how many lives we’d touch with our music. I just wanted to play… we all did.
Over the past year we’ve all decided it was time for change in our lives. For me this is a change I’ve been thinking about, researching and planning for nearly two years. And I hope that everyone reading this can understand what a wonderful transition we’ve gone through over the past six months or so. I’ve been writing constantly. And the new album is the most real music I think we’ve ever created. It’s the most natural music we’ve made together and during the writing process, these songs came out of me almost as easily as a drunken 3AM hurl haha. It’s also the first album we’ll be releasing that is not a “Last November” record. This will be the very first “Luke Pilgrim” release, something I’m extremely excited about (Yes it’s a name change but Taylor and Tyler are of course still playing and are as excited about this as I am). The direction may be quite a change from the LN days but in many ways it’s kind of what I’ve always seen myself doing. I enjoy story teller lyrics, which I think has always been apparent, and the music on this album definitely compliments the story.
That being said, as far as we know there will be no more Last November releases nor will we be performing as LN anymore. We loved Last November with everything we had but the time has come for a new chapter in our lives. I’d like to sincerely thank everyone who has ever attended a show, bought a CD, burned a CD, told a friend about us, bought & worn our shirts, let us crash at your house, let us play at your venue, shared the stage with us & truly cared about us. Also, thank you to all the musicians who have graced us with your talents as we have had a rotating cast of members over the years. There are plenty I’m forgetting to thank. However, this is merely a new course rather than a hiatus, so it’s not really necessary to name everyone because I’ll have plenty more chances to thank them as we continue our music career.
The line-up is changing a bit. But rather than losing anyone were merely adding some friends to the stage. Our good friend Justin Osborne from Sequoyah Prep School recorded mandolin on the new CD and he will be playing with us as well. Of course he’s still singing for Sequoyah. Another extremely talented musician we’ve added is our friend Jeff Bynum. He was previously in the band Big City Sunrise, and is an incredible fiddle player.
I hope you all enjoy the new music and direction as much as we all do. I’m very proud of it. I love it more than anything I’ve ever even attempted to do in my life. So if you have a moment, please stop by www.lukepilgrim.com and give it a listen. At the top of the page is a download link. You can download the entire new album for free. Burn a CD or put on your iPod. Do what you will with it. The only thing we ask, and this is of the utmost importance, please blare this music in whatever means of transportation you may have and please please please pass the music along to your friends. If they dig it, either tell them how they can get it or just burn them a copy of your CD.
If you still have a Myspace, feel free to add us as a friend at www.myspace.com/lukepilgrim. I know a lot of you tweeters follow us on the Last November Twitter, however we will no longer be tweeting much from that one unless something comes up that pertains to LN. If you’d like to stay up to date, please follow @lukepilgrim at www.twitter.com/lukepilgrim. And of course Taylor & Tyler’s twitters are www.twitter.com/taylorwoodruff and www.twitter.com/tylerayersLN. After you’ve given the new tunes a listen, I’d be very much obliged if you would “like” (it used to be called “become a fan” I think, but now you just “like” it apparently) my music page on Facebook. (*note: The Luke Pilgrim music page is separate from my personal profile which some of you may currently be friends with.)
Sorry for writing a book here. I guess I had more to say than I thought haha. As for the immediate future? Well, since we just finished putting the final touches on the album (which sounds absolutely amazing by the way) now we are working toward getting our act together enough to perform these tunes for y’all live as soon as possible. The first dates we are planning will be in Georgia. Definitely putting together a hometown show. But we’ll also be adding some Carolina fun to the schedule. And you know us, we can’t put out new music without a nice visual to go along with it. So keep your eyes peeled for some music videos over the next few months.
Ok I’m going to just stop typing now. Because I fear if I don’t this may morph into my first autobiography and I’m not sure I’m ready for the world to know those intricate personal (gory) details of my life. (Pun) Nor would anyone in their right mind care to read it.
Thank you and good night…
